Smith Goes on Rampage Against Beavers Tuesday, April 27th, 1954 It was a great day at the plate for Hershell Smith. For his Cincinnati Packers, the day was not nearly as good. The center fielder collected 5 hits in 5 tries, but his club still came up short in the win column. The Buffalo Beavers snatched the victory, topping the Packers by a score of 9-4. "Well that wasn't how it was supposed to end," Smith said later. "I'll just have to do it again and get it right." Hershell Smith singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, doubled in the 5th, tripled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
