Davis Humbles New York, 5-0
Sunday, May 22nd , 1977
In an outstanding mound performance, Atlanta Generals starter Bill Davis fired a complete-game shutout against the New York Empires at Queens Field.
Davis was the key to the 5-0 Atlanta win. The 26-year-old right-hander was in high spirits for much of the game, his mood largely unfazed by the 5 hits and 1 walk he allowed.
"5 hits?" he said with a laugh following the game. "Listen, I'd be happy with a 30-hitter, as long as it was a shutout."
So far in 10 appearances this season, Davis has recorded 4 wins and sustained 3 losses. He has pitched 72 innings, yielded 66 hits, fanned 44 and has a 2.12 ERA.
