Baltimore Befuddled by Coomes in 9-0 Loss
Thursday, July 8th , 1976
The Baltimore Lords manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Dallas Wranglers. The Lords were overpowered by Dallas starter Steve Coomes, who hurled his club to victory, 9-0.

"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Steve Read said.

Over 9 innings, Coomes blanked Baltimore on 7 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.

"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Coomes said.

"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."

To date this year, Coomes has compiled a 8-8 mark with a 3.11 ERA in 18 starts.
