San Diego Befuddled by Veirs in 3-0 Loss
Friday, July 15th , 1966
It wasn't easy but the Chicago Traders made it look that way.

Starter Pete Veirs shut out the San Diego Captains despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Chicago Traders cruised to victory, 3-0. Veirs allowed only 4 hits and rang up 7 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.

"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."

To date this year, Veirs shows a 9-6 record, 18 starts, 140.1 innings, 103 strikeouts and a 2.95 ERA.
