New York Bats Silenced by Lester Wednesday, June 19th , 1974 Goose eggs were the order of the day for the New York Empires as starter Phil Lester shut them out, 1-0, at San Vicente Park. The Los Angeles pitcher struck out 6 and walked 4 while allowing 5 hits. "Lester was good but he wasn't flawless," New York manager Dan Whiting said. "We had a few opportunities to make something happen and we didn't do it. Not to take anything away from Los Angeles, but this is on us."
