Harris Tames Boston
Wednesday, June 19th , 1974
The Boston Terriers had no answer for Seattle Emeralds pitcher Mike Harris. They failed to score a single run against him, losing, 11-0. Boston managed only 6 hits off Harris, who had 7 strikeouts.
The extraordinarily popular Harris got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
"Emeralds fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances, but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
In 15 starts this season, Harris has picked up 8 wins while suffering 3 losses. He has pitched 111.1 innings, allowed 84 hits, struck out 69 and posted a 2.26 ERA.
