Boston Blanked by Black
Tuesday, August 3rd , 1976
The Boston Terriers manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Detroit Wolverines. The Terriers were overpowered by Detroit starter Larry Black, who hurled his club to victory, 2-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Phil Palapa said.
Over 9 innings, Black blanked Boston on 5 hits with no walks and 3 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Black said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
This season, Black has compiled a 10-6 record with a 2.44 ERA.
