Sunday, June 30th , 1974
Detroit's William Matz brought his best stuff to Wolverine Field, shutting down and shutting out the Chicago Hawks, 7-0. He racked up 2 strikeouts, surrendered 5 hits, and issued 1 walk on his way to the victory.
"We barely made him work at all," Chicago manager Mike Flaherty said later. "Detroit could probably pitch him again tomorrow if they wanted."
Matz has made 15 starts so far this year and put up a 9-6 won-lost record with a 3.24 ERA. In 102.2 innings he has allowed 82 hits, walked 40 and struck out 62.
