Chapa Twirls 7-0 Shutout for Quakers
Sunday, July 22nd , 1962
The Milwaukee Dairymen had no answer today for Philadelphia Quakers pitcher Jose Chapa. They failed to score a single run against him, losing 7-0. Milwaukee managed only 5 hits off Chapa, who had 6 strikeouts.
The extraordinarily popular Chapa got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
"Quakers fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
In 18 starts this year Chapa has crafted a 5-9 record and a 3.57 ERA.
