Cardenas Holds San Diego Scoreless
Monday, July 15th , 1974
In a seemingly effortless performance, Bruce Cardenas of the St. Louis Explorers shot down the San Diego Captains, 1-0, on 4 hits.
"Bruce was just locating so well and using his pitches," St. Louis manager Ray Fleetwood said later. "He wasn't leaving anything over the plate."
Cardenas recorded 6 strikeouts and 2 walks in a strong outing.
"When he needed to make pitches, he elevated his game," San Diego manager Joe Mack said in postgame comments to BNN. "We couldn't get a key hit off him."
Cardenas has fashioned a 8-7 mark for the season, 3.55 ERA and thrown 124.1 innings in 17 starts. Opposing clubs are batting .249 against him.
