Breaking MLB News: First-Year Player Draft
Wednesday, September 1st , 1976
For players entering the 1976 draft today, there is nothing quite like the anticipation of being picked. And yet, the draft is unsettling to one and all. Almost from the first, things go haywire. Promises and mock drafts go up the chimney. To the young rookie, the pressure ends upon his selection, if only for a short interlude before reality sets in. Washington, Boston, Chicago, Milwaukee and Washington are the first five teams to pick this year. BNN has predicted these players to be among the first ten selected:
1. Paul Knipper, 18 year-old 1B out of high-school. 2. Brian Gatlin, 18 year-old RHP out of high-school. 3. Ivan Robles, 21 year-old CF out of college. 4. Tom Poat, 20 year-old RF out of college. 5. Charlie Goodson, 21 year-old 2B out of college. 6. Ken Brown, 20 year-old RHP out of college. 7. Austin Moore, 21 year-old 3B out of college. 8. Carlos Jimenez, 19 year-old CF out of high-school. 9. Bill Harper, 18 year-old CF out of high-school. 10. Ken Reichardt, 21 year-old RF out of college.
