Philadelphia No Match for Foster
Thursday, July 18th , 1974
The Philadelphia Quakers were almost helpless in their 8-0 loss to the Cincinnati Packers and hurler Kenny Foster. Foster kept the Quakers confused all game, spinning a 5-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Foster," Philadelphia manager Jeff Green said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 23-year-old left-hander had 4 walks and 5 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Foster said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
In 18 starts this year, Foster has posted 4 wins while suffering 10 losses. He has pitched 123.1 innings, allowed 151 hits, struck out 58 and has a 5.62 ERA.
