Bieler Goes 5-for-7
Monday, September 6th , 1976
St. Louis second baseman Dave Bieler went down swinging at Corps of Discovery Stadium, knocking out 5 hits even as his Explorers fell, 6-5.

"It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Bieler said after his 5-for-7 performance against the San Diego Captains. "No offense meant to San Diego, but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well."

After the game, his manager elaborated on the second baseman's improvements, saying Bieler spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball.

"That's what I'm trying to do," Bieler agreed. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."

Dave Bieler singled in the 2nd, tripled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, doubled in the 8th, flied out in the 10th, singled in the 13th and grounded out in the 16th.

Bieler is currently hitting at a .250 pace with 3 home runs, 32 RBIs and has scored 40 times.
