Fonseca Skunks Brooklyn, 2-0
Tuesday, September 7th , 1976
Alex Fonseca of the Cincinnati Packers was on top of his game.

The 31-year-old tantalized the Brooklyn Bluebirds with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 2-0.

"He had the changeup working," Brooklyn manager John Meeker said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Cincinnati hurler had 3 strikeouts, gave up 2 walks and surrendered 10 hits in his complete-game effort.

Fonseca told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

This season, Fonseca has a 10-14 record with a 3.79 ERA in 31 starts.
