Shurtleff Shuts Out Toronto, 3-0
Friday, September 10th , 1976
The Boston Terriers shut out the Toronto Hurons, 3-0, behind the strong pitching of Bruce Shurtleff. Shurtleff surrendered only 7 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 5.

Following the last out, Shurtleff appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Toronto manager Jim Burns, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken left-hander as the clubs left the field. Shurtleff's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.

The Hurons skipper would not comment on the exchange but, at the Terriers press conference, Shurtleff confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.

"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Shurtleff said.

"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Boston manager Phil Palapa added.

So far this year, Shurtleff has a 6-16 record with a 2.96 ERA.
