Estrada Fashions Shutout Against Brooklyn
Friday, July 4th , 1975
The Brooklyn Bluebirds manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Cincinnati Packers. The Bluebirds were overpowered by Cincinnati starter Armando Estrada, who hurled his club to victory, 4-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," John Meeker said.
Over 9 innings, Estrada blanked Brooklyn on 5 hits with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Estrada said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
This year, Estrada has compiled a 4-9 mark with a 4.34 ERA in 18 starts.
