Red-Hot Black Cools Off New York

The New York Empires met their match today in Detroit hurler Larry Black. He kept them guessing the whole game and spun a 5-hit shutout.
"He just worked us over," New York skipper Dan Whiting said. "He probably didn't even need a shower after the game -- he barely worked up a sweat."
In the 5-0 victory, Black whiffed 3 and gave up 1 walk.
Black has posted a 9-4 record for the year with a 3.67 ERA. Teams are hitting .249 against him and he has rung up 58 strikeouts in 103 innings.
