5 Hits for Seagulls Cobb
Monday, July 14th , 1975
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-7 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for John Cobb, it came around today.

The 24-year-old second baseman scattered hits all over Sam Houston Field to pace the 13-12 San Francisco Seagulls victory over the Houston Drillers.

Houston skipper Tom Harrington told reporters in the press room that "Cobb deserves a hat-tip."

"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Cobb hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."

John Cobb doubled in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th, singled in the 8th, flied out in the 11th and grounded out in the 13th.

So far this season, Cobb has 1 home run and a .283 batting average.
