Gould Dominates Generals in 2-0 Shutout
Tuesday, September 12th , 1967
The Toronto Hurons shut out the Atlanta Generals 2-0 today behind the strong pitching of Vern Gould. Gould surrendered only 7 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 2.

Following the last out, Gould appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Atlanta manager Philipe Yazzie, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken right-hander as the clubs left the field. Gould's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.

The Generals skipper would not comment on the exchange, but at the Hurons press conference, Gould confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.

"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Gould said.

"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Toronto manager Jim Burns added.

In 29 starts this season, Gould has recorded 12 wins and absorbed 7 losses. He has pitched 222 innings, allowed 194 hits, struck out 97 and has a 3.12 ERA.
