Red-Hot Crawford Cools Off St. Louis
Sunday, September 7th , 1975
The St. Louis Explorers manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Chicago Traders. The Explorers were overpowered by Chicago starter Skip Crawford, who hurled his club to victory, 5-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Ray Fleetwood said.
Over 9 innings, Crawford blanked St. Louis on 7 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Crawford said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
To date Crawford is 16-12 in 30 starts with a 3.16 ERA and has 114 strikeouts in 242.1 innings.
