Boston Silences Detroit, 3-0 Friday, September 6th , 1974 Bruce Shurtleff kept the Detroit Wolverines hitters from doing much damage at Atlantic Avenue Grounds. Detroit could only muster 6 hits and draw no walks against the left-handed Shurtleff, who controlled them throughout the game. Boston won the contest, 3-0. Shurtleff added 5 strikeouts in his complete-game effort. "I don't know if I was on or if they were off today," Shurtleff told reporters after the shutout win. "But whatever it was, I hope it happens again next time." Checking out his stats for the season, Shurtleff has registered 16 wins and 9 losses in 29 starts, posted a 3.19 ERA, and struck out 160 batters in 223 innings.
