Fredrick Tosses Shutout Against Twin Cities
Friday, April 16th , 1976
John Fredrick of the Baltimore Lords was on top of his game.
The 34-year-old tantalized the Twin Cities Northmen with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 2-0.
"He had the changeup working," Twin Cities manager Jason Gudim said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Baltimore hurler had 1 strikeout, gave up 2 walks and surrendered 5 hits in his complete-game effort.
Fredrick told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
