Gibbs Pitches 15-0 Shutout for New York
Tuesday, August 17th, 1954
Wayne Gibbs led the New York Empires to a 15-0 shutout victory over the Montreal Habitants at Queens Field today.

"My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus," Gibbs recalled later. "He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location."

Gibbs yielded 6 hits and had 6 strikeouts and 2 walks in the standout performance.

"I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," Montreal manager John Trausch said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching."

This season in 19 starts Wayne Gibbs has a record of 8-4 with 68 strikeouts in 119.2 innings and a 2.26 ERA.
