Houston and Chicago got after it at Hyde Park Stadium.

Houston Drillers starter Thornton Shadwell kept the Chicago Hawks hitters in check, leading his team to a comfortable 9-2 win. With the win, Houston pushed its record to 82-80.

Shadwell, a native of Raleigh, North Carolina, was dealing all game. He kept Chicago hitters off-balance, while giving the Drillers 9 quality innings. Shadwell threw 101 pitches, allowing 5 hits and striking out 6.
