Washington Earns 3-2 Win
|
Washington turned a good effort from starter Alex Fonseca into a win over the Cleveland Bobcats at Lakefront Stadium. The final score was 3-2. In 7.1 innings, Fonseca surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Richie Kingery nailed down the save.
Jerry Duersch, the 2nd overall pick in the 1963 draft, aided the Washington cause with a 2-run single in the top of the fourth. For the game, the third baseman was 1 for 4. He drove in 2 runs.
"I'm happy we won," said Fonseca. "That's first and foremost. My goal is for the team to win the day I pitch, however it's done."
The Bobcats drop to 9-13, as their stumbling start to the 1972 season continues.
