Pierce Leads New York to 5-0 Win Over Chicago

In a remarkable performance, New York Empires starter Jon Pierce beat the Chicago Hawks, 5-0, in an impressive 5-hit shutout.
"My arm felt good, mechanics were good and my stuff was working," he said later. "It doesn't get any better than this."
The Empires hurler finished with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks. He showed pinpoint control and a sharp fastball.
"It was a rough one for my guys," Chicago manager Mike Flaherty said, following the game. "We weren't at our best and their guy was."
Currently Pierce has a 7-1 won-lost record in 8 starts with a 2.29 ERA. He also has 45 strikeouts in 66.2 innings.
