Los Angeles Comes up Empty Against Shannon
Sunday, October 19th , 1958
The Los Angeles Pobladores had no answer today for Cleveland Bobcats pitcher Skip Shannon. They failed to score a single run against him, losing 2-0. Los Angeles managed only 3 hits off Shannon, who had 7 strikeouts.
The extraordinarily popular Shannon got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
"Bobcats fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
So far this season Shannon has a 17-9 record, 34 starts, 243.2 innings, 149 strikeouts and a 2.95 ERA.
